Using a Bible Dictionary

by on August 10, 2014

Welcome to the 3rd post in the blog series Bible Reference Resources.

Use this series to find out how to effectively and efficiently use Bible reference resources to deepen your Bible study.

This week’s post takes a closer look at the Bible dictionary.

Using a Bible dictionary

Description:  Bible dictionaries are a practical and useful theological reference book used to understand key Biblical terms.  They combine definitions and proper names for Biblical words that provide insights that allow users to define and analyze Scripture. Use one to discover the meaning of words and study them in context to the theological concepts of that specific verse or passage. Many word searches also include the original Greek and Hebrew word with meaning.

Use a Bible dictionary to understand:

  • people;
  • places;
  • customs;
  • events; and
  • words found in Scripture.
